Our Story

 

Developed by the African Union Development Agency in 2012,  the African Infrastructure Database (AID) is a leading platform dedicated to tracking and analyzing infrastructure projects across Africa. We aim to drive sustainable development by providing accurate, up-to-date information on energy, transport, water, and ICT sectors.

Our mission is to enhance transparency, foster investment, and support decision-making by offering comprehensive data and insights into Africa’s infrastructure landscape. We empower stakeholders to build a more connected and prosperous continent.

 

2010-2015
The African Infrastructure Database emerged as PIDA's digital backbone, pioneering continental infrastructure tracking with its first 51 Priority Action Plan projects. This foundation phase established essential monitoring systems and regional data frameworks, marking Africa's first unified infrastructure monitoring platform
2015-2020
AID's transformation period delivered unprecedented digital innovation, expanding to track over 300 projects. The introduction of mobile access and real-time monitoring revolutionized how Africa manages infrastructure development, enabling seamless cross-border project coordination.
2020-2024
Today's AID stands as Africa's premier infrastructure monitoring system, managing 400+ projects worth $130B+ across 55 countries. Its advanced features support investment matching, smart reporting, and regional integration, demonstrating PIDA's commitment to accelerating Africa's infrastructure development
