Expansion of Pointe Noire Port (Republic of Congo).

The proposed Kaléta dam project entails the construction of a gravity dam, with a 240 MW capacity. The Kaléta site is located in Guinea, 115 km northeast of Conakry and 130 km upstream of the mouth of the Konkouré River. This project was previously part of the larger Gambia River Basin Development Organisation (OMVG) project involving the four countries, namely The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. Guinea, however, decided to develop Kaléta as a stand-alone. Interconnection to other OMVG countries remains intended in future. The project will have the following characteristics: Storage hydropower plant with 240 MW of hydropower capacity Net average generation: 660 GWh/year Gravity dam with maximum height: 22 m, crest length: 1060 m, reservoir storage: 23 million m3.  

The Semliki River is part of the Nile River Basin with two thirds of its course being in the DRC and the lower third forming the boundary between the DRC and Uganda. Great Lakes Region is characterized by a shortage of indigenous energy sources and highly skewed relationships of dependency regarding energy imports Less than 10% of the population has access to electricity. The region is thus heavily dependent on oil imports Currently, majority of the population of Eastern DRC, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda relies on bio-fuels such as wood The power demand for the cities of Beni, Butembo and surroundings will be supplied from a hydropower station on the Semliki River with a capacity of 72 MW. It will need a step-up transformer MV/HV or MV; including the construction of the distribution network. The Semliki hydropower station would serve mainly the towns of Béni and Butembo as well as the rural areas located around these towns. The available reserve could be exported to the Great Lakes Region with an interconnection grid. The Semliki is one of four (the others are Mogomba, Muyama and Kiyimbi) proposed hydropower projects, packaged to have potential capacity of 150MW, generating annual energy production of 800 GWh. A hydropower station on the Semuliki River of 72 MW; - power distribution network low and high voltage in the towns of Beni and Butembo and surroundings. The distribution network is envisaged to be a Medium Voltage network. Béni and Butembo will be served by 30 kV lines from the substation at the Semliki plant. Butembo has already a network LV and MV linked to its own hydropower station. However its network will be adapted to the parameters of the Semliki project (distribution voltage 30 kV, distribution 6.6 kV) and will in some cases be extended. A high voltage transmission line (220kV) from Goma - Butembo - Béni whose feasibility is complete will also be constructed to evacuate the generation from Semuliki.Dated studies suggested the project would cost USD 900m. Several areas that require particular attention have been noted in previous studies including: Improvement of hydrological data and modelling, economic modelling to determine viability, comprehensive ESIA to address potentially large environmental challenges, the actual geological conditions, layouts and designs. A budget of USD 6m has been included in the phase of the NEL-IP for the required studies to define the project better.

The project will construct approximately 80 km of dual-carriage motorway between Bou Salem and the Tunisian-Algerian border. Together with the Oujda-Algerian-border link in Morocco, it will close the principal missing sections of the central Trans-Maghreb Motorway Axis. The project is intended to improve continuity between Tunisian and Algerian motorway networks, reduce travel times and accident risk, facilitate cross-border movement and strengthen regional trade and economic integration. The original PAP II financial text gives TND 2.260 billion and provides a source USD equivalent of USD 805.27416 million. This is stored as CAPEX and total cost. The UfM continues to identify the project as ongoing and states that completion of project design and implementation of the fundraising plan remain next steps. Evidence of PPP studies or a decision on delivery method supports project structuring but does not prove tender award or construction. T

The Lobito Port Expansion and Modernization Project is a major infrastructure initiative to transform the Port of Lobito into a modern, high-capacity Atlantic gateway for the Lobito Corridor. The project scope includes the construction of a new 1,250-meter multipurpose terminal with three berths, dredging of the access channel to -16.5 meters, and the installation of modern container handling equipment, including ship-to-shore gantry cranes. It also involves expanding the container yard, building new warehouses for bulk and general cargo, and enhancing rail-port connectivity through the rehabilitation of the Lobito Corridor railway linking Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Zambia. The project is designed to increase the port's annual container handling capacity from approximately 200,000 TEUs to over 1 million TEUs. Key stakeholders include the Government of Angola (Ministry of Transport), the Port of Lobito Authority (APL), the Lobito Corridor Concessionaire (a consortium of Trafigura, Mota-Engil, and Vecturis), and international development partners like the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). A significant recent development was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in October 2023 between the U.S., EU, Angola, DRC, and Zambia to support the Lobito Corridor, including the port.

The Geba 1 Dam includes a reservoir for regulation of flows which feed a 286MW hydropower plant 480m below, just upstream of the Geba 2 Dam. The Geba 2 Dam is very small, effectively a weir, diverting a constant flow to the 165MW Geba 2 hydropower plant a further 267m lower down. This cascade arrangement allows both the Geba 1 and Geba 2 powerhouses to efficiently use the regulated water flow from Geba 1's reservoir, optimizing power generation across both plants. The combined project is expected to generate substantial clean electricity, contributing to Ethiopia's renewable energy goals and regional power supply. The Geba cascade hydropower project was included in the short-term priority projects under the Baro-Akobo-Sobat (BAS) Multipurpose Water Resources Development Study Project (2017) after application of the basinwide Strategic Social and Environmental Assessment (SSEA) that was carried out as part of that project.

Construction of 863 km of DRC National Road No.2 (Goma-Kisangani) single carriageway road.

The power plant will be located on the Ruzizi River, which forms the common border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, approximately five kilometres west of Bugarama in Rwanda's Western Province. Ruzizi IV will be developed near the existing Ruzizi I and II plants and the planned Ruzizi III plant. The facility is planned as the fourth hydropower station in the cascade, with an installed capacity of 287 MW. The generated electricity will be shared equally among Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Verified implementation and technical context: The project is being prepared through regional institutions responsible for the Ruzizi basin and Great Lakes electricity cooperation. AfDB records describe a 287 MW plant intended to complete development of the remaining hydropower potential in the cascade. The preparation programme includes engineering and planning studies, environmental and social analysis, institutional arrangements, financial modelling and the definition of an implementation structure that can serve all three participating countries. Any current profile must avoid importing financing, procurement or construction milestones from Ruzizi III, which is a separate project with a different development history.

The project will deliver: (i) Reduced transport costs for landlocked EAC states (Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi) and neighbouring countries like DRC, by shifting cargo from long road hauls to lake shipping. (ii) Improved lake transport operations - more reliable schedules, safer routes, better intermodal links (road/rail/port). (iii) Increased investment in: - port and maritime infrastructure, - modern cargo and passenger vessels, - tourism and water sports around the lake. (iv) A safer navigation and security environment (fewer accidents, better emergency response). Port rehabilitation and construction will include: - Rehabilitation and expansion of Kisumu Port - Construction of Bukasa Inland Port near Kampala; - Upgrades in Mwanza, Bukoba, Musoma;

This project forms part of the West Africa North Core transmission interconnector which connects the power markets of Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso and Benin/Togo. 

The project involves the upgrading of the 640 km road from Eldoret to Nadapal, the border with South Sudan.

The project will develop a cross-border high-voltage alternating-current transmission line from Guba in Ethiopia to Khartoum in Sudan. It is one of the interconnections proposed under the Eastern Africa Green Power Transmission Network linking countries in the Horn of Africa and integrating them into the Eastern Africa Power Pool. The approved PAP II technical concept provides a transfer capacity of approximately 3,000 MW and will enable participating countries to exchange lower-cost renewable electricity through a larger regional market. Verified implementation and technical context: The EAPP assignment requires the updated ESIA to cover transmission lines, substations, ancillary facilities and all linked activities, and to comply with the legal requirements of Ethiopia and Sudan and the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework. The required outputs include updated baseline and impact analysis, an environmental and social management plan, cumulative-impact assessment, resettlement planning, stakeholder engagement, indigenous-peoples planning and gender measures. The proposed line is a second interconnection and must not be confused with the existing Ethiopia-Sudan link. The investment is also affected by the current institutional and security environment in Sudan.

Development of new container terminal (berths 13 and 14) with dredging of the access channel at Dar es Salaam Port.

Louga 1 will include a reservoir, a 1,683 m dam, three bulb-type generating units with total capacity of 126 MW, a spillway and tailrace canal. Louga 2 will include a reservoir, a 1,107 m dam, three bulb-type units with total capacity of 120 MW, a spillway and tailrace canal. Electricity will be evacuated through the 225 kV network, with the final evacuation arrangement to be confirmed by detailed design studies. Verified implementation and technical context: CI-ENERGIES reports that PowerChina undertook reconnaissance, surveying and technical investigations and proposed replacing the original single Louga site with the two developments. Feasibility reports for Louga 1 and Louga 2 were submitted in December 2019, followed by technical review and preliminary environmental work. The two plants form part of the sequence of hydropower developments in the Sassandra valley and are intended to contribute to Côte d'Ivoire's target of a more diversified generation mix with a larger renewable share. Planned construction and commissioning dates in historical CI-ENERGIES reports are forecasts and should not be presented as achieved milestones.

The project proposes a multipurpose dam on the Dawa River approximately 20 km upstream of Rhamu Dimtu in Kenya and near Boni in Ethiopia. Current PIDA specifications indicate an estimated dam height of about 90 metres, reservoir capacity of approximately 4.5 billion cubic metres and potential hydropower generation of 8.2 MW. The stored water would support irrigation, flood control, domestic and livestock water supply, fisheries and improved dry-season water availability across the transboundary basin.

The project forms part of the upgrading of the 1,200 km of narrow gauge railway between Abidjan and Ouagadougou. In particular it involves the section in Ivory Coast, from Abidjan to the border with Burkina Fasso.

Construction of a 500kV high voltage transmission line and associated Substation or Converter station that connects the power networks of Egypt and Sudan to facilitate trading in electricity and promote power systems stability. The project comprises the update of project studies.

The 225 kV Côte d'Ivoire - Liberia - Sierra Leone - Guinea Interconnection Project (CLSG) is a major regional power transmission infrastructure project. It involves the construction of approximately 1,303 km of 225 kV double-circuit transmission line, connecting the national grids of Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Key components include 10 new substations (4 in Liberia, 5 in Sierra Leone, 1 in Guinea), the extension of the existing Man substation in Côte d'Ivoire, installation of Static Var Compensators (SVCs) at five locations, and the establishment of a Regional SCADA system and control centers. The project is a flagship of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and is designed to facilitate electricity trade, improve grid stability, and provide electricity access to communities along the corridor using the Shield Wire Scheme.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia signed an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on 9 July 2015 for the joint development of generation projects in the Luapula River Basin and a new power interconnector. Their national power utilities also signed specific agreements for the generation projects and interconnector. Earlier investigations identified five potential hydropower sites and more than 1,188 MW of potential capacity, including over 773 MW of firm capacity. The technical concept provides for development in four phases, with an initial implementation phase of approximately 270 MW. The AfDB project-preparation programme is intended to determine the technically, economically, environmentally and financially preferred sequence for developing the river's hydropower sites. It covers hydrology, geology, engineering design, energy production, transmission evacuation, institutional and legal arrangements, economic and financial analysis and environmental and social safeguards. The Luapula River forms the border between southern DRC and northern Zambia for a substantial part of its course, so the project requires joint governance and coordinated ownership, operation and power-offtake arrangements. The programme must remain separate from other Zambian hydropower schemes, including Kalungwishi and Lufubu.

The Transborder Submarine Fiber PoPs, Regional Smart Hub Facility and Data Centre is a multi-country ICT infrastructure project under the PIDA Priority Action Plan 2 (PAP 2) 2021-2030. The project aims to interconnect Kenya and its neighbouring countries - Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania - by relaying Kenya's terrestrial fibre network connecting the submarine cables arriving at Mombasa to their borders through strategically placed Points-of-Presence (PoPs) and a high-capacity Smart Hub Data Centre. The project is coordinated through the East African Community (EAC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and is aligned with Kenya Vision 2030, the ICT Infrastructure Masterplan, the Smart Africa and Digital Economy Blueprint, and the IGAD Regional Infrastructure Masterplan (IRIMP). It is structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and is considered a flagship project for regional digital integration under AU Agenda 2063. The project is complemented by the World Bank-funded Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EARDIP), which supports EAC and IGAD as conduits of digital integration across Eastern Africa, covering Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and the two RECs in Phase I. A key enabling milestone was the official launch on July 18, 2025, of a 130 km cross-border terrestrial fibre link connecting Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) to Mombasa (Kenya) at the Lunga Lunga/Horohoro border, implemented by Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) and Kenya's ICT Authority (ICTA), operating at 1.6 Tbps and providing Tanzania access to Kenya's eight submarine cable landings. Kenya already has several sub-marine fibers landing in Mombasa and has already done terrestrial fiber connecting the sub-marine cable to the borders of the other partner countries (Busia border for Uganda, Mandera border for Somalia, Moyale border for Ethiopia, Nadapal border for South Sudan, Lunga-Lunga, Namanga and Holili border for Tanzania). The inter-connectivity infrastructure at the border points comprising 400 Gbps PoPs and Smart Hub data centre in Mombasa are lacking.

The project proposes a joint dam on the Lower Orange River near Noordoewer in Namibia and Vioolsdrift in South Africa. The feasibility process has examined alternative sites and sizes for a re-regulation reservoir capable of improving the long-term sustainable yield of the Orange River System. The facility would support projected municipal, agricultural and industrial demand, future irrigation development and releases needed to meet ecological water requirements in the lower river.

This project includes development of 3 new berths on the eastern side of Dar es Salaam port, linked by a bridge south of the existing dockyard and fronting the new Kigamboni city extension. The new berths will allow avoidance of access chanel limitations making it possible to handle 6th generation vessels.

The project covers modernisation of RN01 between Ghardaia and Tamanrasset, a central Algerian section of the Trans-Saharan Highway. The intended works include capacity, pavement, alignment, safety and service improvements needed to support long-distance freight and passenger movements. The project has regional significance because RN01 forms part of the principal route connecting northern Algeria with the Sahara, Niger, Nigeria and adjoining Sahel markets. Progress on rail projects or on other Trans-Saharan road sections must not be reported as implementation of this specific RN01 modernisation scope. The verified PAP II financial baseline is USD 500 million in CAPEX. The project retains S3A, as it is the last verified PAP II milestone and no later official evidence of exact scope supports a stage change. The existing 2,400 km dimension is not changed because the uploaded validation review concluded that it may describe the wider corridor rather than the specific Ghardaia-Tamanrasset section.

The study was completed in May 2020. The study investigated many possible options and in 2016 initially concluded that the optimal NVD would have a wall height of about 73 m, with a storage capacity of 2,800 million m3 and would be concrete faced rock fill type (CFRD). Certain limited further feasibility studies are required before the project can proceed to implementation. Such studies would include at least an independent review of the above findings, the finalisation of the exact parameters for the recommended optimal NVD in terms of size, site and type, and obtaining environmental authorisation for implementation. This project concerns the Sudan section of a high-voltage Ethiopia-Sudan power interconnection designed to move power from Ethiopia into Sudan and strengthen the Eastern Africa Power Pool. The existing database record describes a 500 kV transmission line ending near Khartoum, with new or upgraded high-voltage substation facilities at Rabak and Jebel Aulia in Sudan and bay extensions linked to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance area and Sudanese network nodes.The project has an important history. Ethiopia and Sudan already implemented an earlier interconnector, which the Nile Basin Initiative documents as commissioned around 2010-2013 and used to support regional power trade. That earlier success provides a technical and institutional basis for the larger 500 kV scheme, but it does not by itself validate the very high CAPEX currently stored against this record.Validation note: external sources confirm the strategic rationale and earlier Ethiopia-Sudan interconnection history, but I did not find a reliable external source confirming the current capex_cost value of 48,494 in USD million. Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project (RRFHP) Development Objective is to increase the supply of electricity to the national grids of Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi. It Comprises of construction of an 80 MW power plant including the associated generation substation. The project is jointly financed by the Governments of Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania with credits and grants totaling to USD 340 million equivalent for the Civil Works and Electromechanical Works. AfDB parallel-financing is associated with the transmission lines to each of the three countries at a cost of USD 121 Million. These include 220kV transmission lines double circuit running 161 km from the power plant to Gitega substation in Burundi, 119km double circuit line from the Power plant to Shango sub-station in Rwanda and 98.2 km double circuit line from the power plant to Nyakanazi sub-station in Tanzania.The project has the following components CP1 (Civil Works); CP2 (Electromechanical works); Livelihoods Restoration Program (LRP); and Local Area Development Program (LADP). Out of the USD 340 million, the budget breakdown for each of the component is as follows: (i)LADP allocation is USD 15 million (USD 5 million for each country (Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania); (ii)LRP allocation is about USD 711,612 (only for PAPs); and (iii)The remaining is for CP1, CP2, OE, and PIU operations.The three governments mandated and entrusted Nile Basin Initiative /Nile Equatorial lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NBI/NELSAP CU) to coordinate the implementation of the project. The Nile Basin Trust Fund (NBTF) financed the Feasibility and Design Studies to a tune of USD 7.72 million. The studies were carried out from 2005 and completed in 2013. The studies were undertaken by NBI/NELSAP CU. The Project was approved by the World Bank in 2014; procurement of CP1 Contractor and CP2 Contractor was started in 2015 and completed and Contracts signed on 9th November, 2016; mobilization for construction works started in December 2016/January 2017; and the project completion date is 2021.

The project includes the construction of a road and rail bridge between Brazzaville in Congo and Kinshasa in the DRC. The project also includes road and rail links in both countries as well as joint border control points (One Stop Border Posts). A border control post will be located at each end of the bridge and will house border control officers. Inspections will only be conducted on one side of the river (i.e. on the departure side). The existing road infrastructure will be extended by 10km to connect the bridge to the two cities. The railway bridge will have a total length of 1 575m and 10 bays divided as follows: 2 bays of 120m, 4 bays of 152m, 2 bays of 242m and two bays of 121.5m. The profile on the other side of the road consists of two unidirectional sidewalks with two lanes of 3m. The total width of the road, including sidewalks, is 16.24 m. The two large cable-stayed spans (242m and 152m), located in the river along the banks, give the bridge a gateway to the capitals. The bridge will be located in Maloukou Trechot, 6km from the city of Maluku in Congo. The site is 55km from the two capitals along the river. The bridge is part of a larger project, the Kinshasa-Ilebo railway project, which aims to improve the rail network in Africa. The larger project is expected to contribute to increased regional trade and accelerate regional integration between Central and Southern Africa. The project is expected to allow for cheaper and faster river crossing by passengers and freight. The beneficiaries of the project will therefore include the two countries whose fisci will benefit from increased trade, the increased presence of domestic and foreign companies in both countries, from private transporters and the economic and social benefits of liberated movement of both populations

The Lobito Corridor Railway Rehabilitation Project involves the comprehensive rehabilitation and modernization of the 1,344 km Benguela Railway (CFB) from the deep-water port of Lobito in Angola to the border town of Luau, which connects to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) rail network. The project scope includes the complete reconstruction of the railway line, replacement of sleepers and rails, rehabilitation of 67 stations, modernization of signaling and telecommunications systems, procurement of new locomotives and rolling stock, and the reconstruction of 35 major bridges. The corridor is a critical link for exporting copper, cobalt, and other minerals from the DRC's Katanga Province and Zambia's Copperbelt region to global markets via the Atlantic Ocean. The project is implemented by the Lobito Atlantic Railway Consortium, a partnership formed by Trafigura, Mota-Engil, and Vecturis, under a 30-year concession agreement with the governments of Angola, DRC, and Zambia. The concession was formally signed in July 2022. The project is part of the broader Lobito Corridor initiative, which includes complementary port and road infrastructure.

This project entails the upgrading of the Mombasa -Voi road to a dual carriageway. An alternative short term solution is to rehabilitate the road and provide climbing lanes along sections where heavy vehicles reach crawl speed as a result of steep gradients.

The proposed Sambangalou dam project entails the construction of a gravity dam, with a 128 MW capacity, and a 3.8 km3 reservoir. The dam is located in Senegal, 930 km upstream from the mouth of the Gambia river and about 25 km south of Kédougou. The reservoir overlaps Senegal and Guinea. The project now has two components, i.e. Sambangalou Dam and an interconnection transmission line which will link the Sambangalou and Kaleta dams to the electric grid of the four member countries. The project was formerly part of larger OMVG Energy project involving fuoir countries (with Kaleta dam in Guinea and interconnecting power grid), however it split in 2011 after Guinea decided to develop Kaleta dam as a standalone.  

The Ntem River Bridge is intended to close a major missing link between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea on the Kribi-Campo-Bata road corridor. It will support a continuous regional route connecting Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon and improve access to ports, border areas and national road networks. The approved technical scope consists of a 972 m prestressed-concrete box-girder bridge constructed by successive cantilevers. It includes a two-way seven-metre carriageway, cycle tracks and pedestrian walkways, approximately 933 m of approach road towards Campo in Cameroon and 600 m towards Rio Campo in Equatorial Guinea, as well as environmental and social measures. Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea are the project-location countries, while Gabon is a beneficiary through the wider Yaoundé-Bata-Libreville economic corridor. ECCAS is the regional institution responsible for corridor coordination. The PAP II estimate is USD 447.3 million excluding taxes and customs duties but including physical and financial contingencies. This value represents the complete approved project, not merely a study or one national access-road component. AfDB approved the regional transport and trade-facilitation project in 2023 and provided financing through sovereign operations involving the participating states. Approval of finance supports S3B, but it does not by itself prove that procurement or physical construction has begun. Official project reporting reviewed through 2025 continued to show the operation as active.

The Ethiopia-Sudan Power System Interconnection Project (Grand Renaissance-New Rabak, New Jabel Awelya) connects power generated by Ethiopia's Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), via Assosa, to new substations at Rabak and Jebel Aulia near Khartoum in Sudan. The Ethiopia-Sudan Power System Interconnection Project involves constructing a 590 km, 500 kV high-voltage transmission line linking Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) with Sudan's power grid, terminating at new substations in Rabak and Jebel Aulia near Khartoum. This interconnector is designed to facilitate the export of clean hydropower from Ethiopia's GERD, with a generation capacity of 5,150 MW, to Sudan, enabling Sudan to reduce reliance on thermal power and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The project includes upgrading substations at GERD, Rabak, and Jebel Aulia, and aims to improve power supply reliability and meet peak demand variability between the two countries. It is a key component of the Eastern Nile Power System and the continental PIDA program, promoting.

Construction of 365 km Juba-Torit-Kapoeta-Nadapal single cariageway road in South Sudan. The road links with the proposed South Sudan/Kenya OSBP project at Nadapal.

BAC and LOTEMO have similar hydrological and topographical conditions in a narrow rocky valley of the Lobaye River. Each run-of-river site will use a concrete overflow dam with a powerhouse at the toe of the dam, four 6 MW Kaplan turbine units, 24 MW installed capacity, 16 MW firm capacity in the low-flow period and an equipment flow of 300 cubic metres per second. The programme also includes associated electricity transmission lines. Development of the two sites requires updated hydrological and geological investigation, engineering design, environmental and social assessment, transmission-route studies and agreement on cross-border power supply. The two 24 MW run-of-river plants would provide firm generation during low-flow periods and reinforce a power system with limited existing generation and transmission capacity. The associated lines are central to the project's regional rationale and must be included in technical, environmental, economic and financial assessment. AfDB regional-acceleration material continues to treat BAC and LOTEMO as a preparation-stage priority rather than a commissioned asset.

The project will enable a direct road link between the Central Corridor and Lake Victoria at Kigoma.

The Integrated Watershed Management in the Ribb, Gumera and Jema Watersheds project is one of the four fast track projects prepared in 2007 under the Eastern Nile Watershed Management (ENWM) Project. The project was prepared as an integral part of Tana-Beles Watershed Management Project. The project area was comprised of five micro-watersheds/development clusters totaling 80,600 ha in area and split roughly equally between the Ribb, Gumera and Jema watersheds, each of which drains into Lake Tana. The project objective was to improve the livelihoods of rural households living in the upper catchments of Ribb, Gumera and Jema Watersheds in Ethiopia through enhanced productivity and promotion of sustainable land use practices. The project was structured along three mutually supportive themes, namely (a) theme A on livelihoods, which had four components directed at improving livelihoods through better communications, increased productivity and enhanced income generation; (b) theme B on natural resources, which had two main components covering soil and water management and forestry and agro-forestry measures aimed at creating a sustainable landscape that limits erosion and creates a more productive basis for livelihood generation; and (c) theme C on capacity building and project management that addresses the immediate constraints in capacity to implement the project and sustain the outcomes through more robust community and government institutions. Specific interventions under the project included upgrading rural feeder roads; establishing micro-finance schemes; improving water supply and sanitation systems; improving facilities at health posts and primary schools; demonstration of improved cropping practices (such as alley cropping, intercropping, strip cropping, cover cropping, etc), improved seed and fertilizer use; integrated pest management; controlled ploughing; stabilization of terraces and gullies with trees and shrubs; cultivation of pasture grasses and leguminous hedgerows for fodder production; establishment of animal health posts; development of dairy processing and animal fattening programmes; classification of land base on slope and introduction of appropriate soil and water conservation measures such as land closure, bench terracing, stone bunds, earth bunds, contour bunds and check dams; promotion of rainwater harvesting; promotion of small scale irrigation; establishment of tree nurseries and planting of private and community woodlots.

This Project is located in Western Kenya. The dam is intended to provide flood controls, irrigation development and hydropower generation. The project includes a 155 Mm3 dam, 20MW electricity, 30,000ha of irrigation, up to 86,400m3 /d water supply, benefitting 1.152m people. Detailed feasibility and design studies have been done for this project and it now requires implementation, estimated at USD 393.7m over 3 years, which has been included in NEL-IP.

The project incorporates a combination of capital expenditure and operational optimisation initiatives to increase the capacity of the overall export coal system to 81mtpa. These projects include: - Major upgrades to the power supply and overhead traction equipment - Running line upgrades - Matlabas loop extension - Rolling stock yards"  

The approved project comprises a 98 km transmission line operating at 220 kV. It was identified as a least-cost transmission investment in the Tanzania Power System Master Plan and the East African Community Power System Master Plan. The line will connect the Ugandan and Tanzanian grids around the Lake Victoria zone and provide regional transmission capacity for electricity exchange. Verified implementation and technical context: The World Bank's current project design places the Ugandan investment within the Regional Energy Transmission, Trade and Decarbonization for Eastern Africa (RETRADE-EA) programme. It includes the 260 km Wobulenzi-Masaka-Mutukula line, extension of the Wobulenzi substation, a new Masaka substation, environmental and social mitigation, livelihood restoration, project-management support and institutional strengthening for integrated-system operation and regional power trade. UETCL is responsible for the Ugandan package, while TANESCO is responsible for the corresponding Tanzanian investments under intergovernmental and inter-utility coordination arrangements. Note: Because the current 400 kV configuration differs from the original 98 km, 220 kV original submission, the database preserves the baseline while clearly recording that the implementation programme has been technically reconfigured.

Widening of the road from 6m to 7m with a paved shoulder to harmonise with EAC standard. The Muyinga-Gitega road is about 104 km on the RN12. This road forms part of the shortest route to the port of Dar es Salaam and carries 60% of international traffic with Burundi.

La phase 2 comprendra le bitumage des tronçons restants entre Kibangu et Ngongo,l'aménagement de la voie de contournement de la ville de pointe noire,l'aménagement des ports secs de Dolisie(Congo) et de Ndende(Gabon) et la mise en oeuvre des mesures de facilitation de transport.

The project involves the extension of Chingola - Solwezi Railway to the border with Angola at Jimbe, to service new mines in the Copperbelt region. Angola has already commenced construction from Luena on the Lobito Corridor towards Jimbe which lies on the Angola- Zambia border. This project will see full rail service on the Lobito Corridor.

The project comprises an alternating-current transmission line of about 165 km between Saloum and Tobruk. It will connect the Egyptian 500 kV system with the Libyan 400 kV system through a 500/400 kV back-to-back converter station rated at 1,000 MW. Verified implementation and technical context: The project is intended to reinforce and expand an established cross-border electricity relationship. The proposed Saloum-Tobruk facilities would use a back-to-back converter to connect national systems with different operating characteristics and substantially increase exchange capacity. The investment requires updated joint system studies, confirmation of the preferred technical configuration, coordinated network reinforcements, a cross-border operating and commercial code, environmental and social preparation and an agreed allocation of costs and benefits.

The Project aims to develop inland water transport infrastructure and services along the Akagera River to improve regional connectivity between Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. The project involves river navigation improvements, construction of port facilities, acquisition of suitable vessels, and establishment of a sustainable operational framework. This environmentally friendly transport alternative will connect Lake Victoria to regions along the Akagera River, providing cost-effective transportation for both passengers and freight while reducing pressure on road infrastructure. The project will employ appropriate river transport technologies suited to the specific conditions of the Akagera River, which has varying depths and flow conditions across seasons. Key design elements include: - Shallow-draft vessels, - Modular port facilities adaptable to water level variations, - Environmentally sensitive river training works where necessary. - Solar power systems for port facilities; - Navigation aids and communication systems compliant with inland waterway standards; - Digital booking and cargo management systems; - Safety and emergency response equipment

The project is intended to create an inland-water transport connection from Lake Victoria through the Kagera/Akagera River to Kagitumba in eastern Rwanda. Its approximately 260 km scope may require river training, dredging, bank protection, cut-offs, navigation structures and inland-port development. The project would provide Rwanda with direct water access to Lake Victoria and connect regional cargo and passenger movements to existing lake ports and onward road and rail corridors. Technical preparation must address seasonal flows, sedimentation, protected ecosystems, hydraulic structures, navigation safety and harmonised cross-border regulation. The project reports a three-stage project cost of USD 298,082,400. The previously stored USD 815 million total is not supported as a like-for-like PAP II baseline by the uploaded validation documents. The active record is therefore corrected to USD 298.0824 million and classified as CAPEX because no separate preparation or operating-cost split is given. The older feasibility work and continuing regional recognition support retaining S2B rather than downgrading the project solely because recent public evidence is limited.

The project involves the construction of the Koukoutamba multi-purpose dam (previously known as Gourbassy dam) between Mali and Senegal. A feasibility study and preliminary design for the Gourbassy Dam was completed by SNC LAVALIN International in 2012 for the OMVS Secretariat (Haut Commissariat de l"’OMVS), with funding from the World Bank under the project PGIRE 1. The main summary report is dated July 2012. Since then, some (rather modest) progress has been made on further project preparation and mobilisation of finance. Activities that have been undertaken include: preparation of terms of reference for detailed design studies and tender documents. The preparation of studies to assess the cost of building the dam; and development of plans to mobilise finance, including planning for a donor round table and sending out funding requests to potential partners has been done.

Strategically located half-way down the coast of Namibia, with direct access to principal shipping routes, Walvis Bay is a natural gateway for international trade. Walvis Bay is Namibia's largest commercial port, receiving approximately 3,000 vessel calls each year and handling about 5 million tonnes of cargo. In order to deal with even higher levels of throughput, cargo-handling facilities have been improved, and Namibia Port Authority (Namport) remains committed to infrastructure development, in line with Namport's Mission to provide efficient and effective port and related services. The project will expand the Port of Walvis Bay"’s container handling as well as bulk handling capacity ahead of demand by the construction of a 30 hectare large new modern container terminal on reclaimed land with 600m of quay wall length designed for a water depth of 16.5m alongside but dredged to 14.0m initially. In so doing the current container terminal will be converted back to a multipurpose terminal capable of handling more bulk and break bulk cargo.

The project is intended to provide a paved regional road from El Fasher through Kabkabiya and El Geneina to Adri at the Chad border. It covers about 328 km of new construction and 21 km of upgrading, giving an overall planned length of approximately 349 km. The road would improve access across Darfur, strengthen Sudan-Chad connectivity, reduce travel costs and isolation and support trade, humanitarian access and regional integration. The PAP II financial baseline is USD 262.4 million in CAPEX. The project remains active in the PAP II portfolio, but the current conflict and institutional environment in Darfur mean that anticipated schedules or general road activity cannot be treated as progress on this specific corridor. No construction-stage claim is made.
