The project forms part of the upgrading of the 1,200 km of narrow gauge railway between Abidjan and Ouagadougou. In particular it involves the section in Ivory Coast, from Abidjan to the border with Burkina Fasso.
The objective of the project is to improve the connectivity between Abidjan Port in Ivory Coast and landlocked Burkina Fasso, and to offer multi-modal transport options for transporters in the region, thereby lowering overall transport cost.
