The Algeria section of the Niamey–Algiers fibre-optic link forms part of the trans-Saharan optical-fibre backbone. It is intended to connect Algeria with neighbouring Sahel countries, increase international bandwidth and improve route diversity. Algeria completed 2,548 km of fibre from Algiers to In Guezzam at the Algerian–Niger border, together with a secondary link toward Tindouf.
