Construction of 101 km / 330 kV Hwange to Victoria Falls and construction of the 14km Victoria Falls to Livingstone cross-border link of section of the ZiZaBoNa transmission interconnector, i.e. Zimbabwe-Zambia-Botswana-Namibia. The construction of an interconnector aims to provide high power transmission to in order to relieve congestion on the SAPP grid supply power to the growing demand of Namibia.
ZiZaBoNa creates a new Western Transmission Corridor in Southern Africa, by linking the power systems of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia. This part of the project is the first phase of the bigger ZiZaBoNa project and involves the construction of a 101 km / 330 kV transmission interconnector from Hwange Power Station to Victoria Falls Substation in Zimbabwe and construction of the 14km Victoria Falls to Livingstone cross-border link with a transmission capacity of 300 MW.

Overarching rationale for the ZIZABONàtransmission infrastructure includes to: a) Allow four ZIZABONàcountries (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia) to export or import more power and to trade energy with each other (and with the wider SAPP area, South Africa in particular) b) Ease congestion on North-South transmission corridor through Zimbabwe to South Africa c) Ease congestion on North-South corridor in South Africa between Matimba power station and Cape Town d) Reduce transmission losses and increase reliability. ZIZABONàwill create a new 'Western Transmission Corridor"' in the Southern African grid and is priority project identified by the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP).
