Mozambique-Malawi Transmission Interconnector (Malawi section) is an electricity-transmission project serving Malawi and Mozambique. It seeks to strengthen grid reliability and regional power trade through high-voltage lines, substations and cross-border interconnection facilities. The Mozambique–Malawi interconnector remained under construction and testing in 2025. The project had not reached reliable commercial operation by the 2025 assessment date.

The project entails the construction of a 200 km, 400 kV(initially 220 kV) power line from Matambo substation, in Mozambique, to Phombeya, north of Blantyre. The first assignment will involve the design, supply and installation of the 400 kV overhead transmission line from the Mozambique-Malawi border to a new substation at Phombeya. The second assignment will entail the design, supply and installation of the new 400 kV Phombeya substation. Other assignments include extension of Matambo substation (Mozambique) and upgrading of SCADA systems (EDM).

The objective of the project is to link Malawi to the SAPP grid, via Mozambique and consists of a 400 kV, approximately 200km interconnector between Mozambique and Malawi. The project will promote regional co-operation and integration by expanding the regional power transmission network in accordance with the objectives of the SAPP; Reduction of major investment costs by delaying the construction of high unit cost power generation facilities by Malawi; and enable the electrifying new areas where grid power extensions are economically viable.
