The Nairobi–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway is the proposed Kenyan extension of the regional railway toward the Uganda border. It is intended to improve long-distance freight and passenger movement and connect Kenya's existing standard-gauge network with the wider Mombasa–Kigali corridor. The extension remains at project-structuring stage.

The governments of Kenya and Uganda and Rwanda have committed to the development of a standard gauge railway that links the landlocked countries of Rwanda and Uganda with Mombasa port in Kenya. This project entails the section from Nairobi to the Kenya/Uganda border at Malaba.

The main objective of the railway line construction is to provide a reliable, efficient railway network leading to reduced cost of transportation and logistics between 15% to 20%. The decrease in transport cost can lead to sustained rapid industrialization and economic growth of the East African region.
