Considerable progress in the planning and implementation of watershed management in the Eastern Nile (in Ethiopia and Sudan) was made under The Eastern Nile Watershed Management Project (ENWMP), a regional initiative, managed by ENTRO. Its main aim is to promote transboundary cooperation among Ethiopia, Sudan and South Sudan, to tackle watershed degradation, reduce sedimentation, and foster sustainable livelihoods and food security. The Baro-Akobo-Sobat IWRDMPlan's proposed "Livelihoods-based Watershed management - taking to scale for a basinwide impact was planned to build on this initiative but has not as yet been implemented.
