The Trans-Maghreb Cross-Border Multiservice Logistics Zones programme will rehabilitate or create logistics and service centres at strategic border and corridor locations in Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. The centres are intended to combine freight, warehousing, customs, driver and vehicle services and trade-facilitation functions.
The programme is intended to identify, rehabilitate and create cross-border centres as multiservice logistics zones along the Trans-Maghreb corridor. Potential functions include freight consolidation, warehousing, customs and border processing, parking, maintenance, driver services, information systems and links to ports, roads and railways.
The programme covers the five Arab Maghreb Union countries: Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. It is a regional logistics and trade-facilitation programme rather than one physical asset at a single site.
Current regional corridor studies may identify logistics needs, but national border-zone or logistics investments cannot automatically be treated as implementation of this exact programme.
Develop a coordinated network of cross-border multiservice logistics zones; improve freight handling, warehousing and border services; reduce corridor delays and logistics costs; facilitate trade among Maghreb countries; and support integrated operation of the Trans-Maghreb transport corridor.
