Project Overview

Sena Railway Line Rehabilitation is a railway project serving Mozambique. It seeks to improve freight and passenger movement and connect production areas and inland markets to ports and border crossings through construction or rehabilitation of the named rail section. The Sena railway rehabilitation supports freight movement through central Mozambique and links hinterland production areas to ports. The rehabilitated line is operational.

Description

<p>The Sena line runs from Limbe (going through Chiromo where the railway line crosses the Shire River, where the culvert has been washed away and Nsanje) to Marka, the border between Malawi and Mozambique.</p>

Objectives

<p>The objectives of the project are to open up the most direct road/rail route from Lilongwe/Blantyre to the port of Beira and thereby significantly reduce the cost of transport to and from Malawi, resulting in improved economic competitiveness and enhances opportunities for income generation and employment.</p>
