Rehabilitation and modernization of the existing Irrigation schemes (Ethiopia) Abbay/Blue Nile

Project Overview

<p class="MsoNormal">There are more than 5.3 million ha of land currently under irrigation in the Eastern Nile, most with a poorThe project titled &acirc;&euro;&tilde;Rehabilitation and modernization of the existing Irrigation schemes (Ethiopia) Abbay/Blue Nile&acirc;&euro;&trade; is one of several priority projects identified by the Eastern Nile states under the Eastern Nile Multi-Sectoral Investment Opportunity Analysis (MSIOA). This programme will be used to rehabilitate existing irrigation schemes in the Abbay/Blue Nile Sub-basin in Ethiopia and introduce improved irrigation and drainage technologies and agronomic practices so as to improve the water efficiency and agricultural productivity of the schemes. Proposed activities under project include undertaking detail studies (feasibility level) to identify soft and hard action plans as well as, cost estimates required to improve the performance of the schemes, and securing finance for the investments.</p>
