The Malaba–Kampala Standard Gauge Railway is the proposed Ugandan section linking the Kenya border at Malaba with Kampala. It is intended to improve freight and passenger transport and connect Uganda to the wider Mombasa–Kigali rail corridor and regional ports. The project remains in tendering and preparation.

The governments of Kenya and Uganda and Rwanda have committed to the development of a standard gauge railway that links the landlocked countries of Rwanda and Uganda with Mombasa port in Kenya. This project entails the section from the Malaba border post (between Kenya and Uganda) to the Ugandan capital Kampala.

The main objective of the railway line construction is to provide a reliable, efficient railway network leading to reduced cost of transportation and logistics between 15% to 20%. The decrease in transport cost can lead to sustained rapid industrialization and economic growth of the East African region.
