The Nyanza-Lac–Mugina RN3 Road is a 45 km regional road section in Burundi connecting Mugina, Mabanda and Nyanza-Lac toward the Tanzanian border. It was delivered to improve corridor continuity, road safety and movement of people and goods between Burundi and Tanzania. The works were completed under a multinational road-upgrading and transport-facilitation programme.
<p>Upgrading of the Bujumbura-Rumonge-Nyanza Lac-Mugina (RN3) road will improve trade, transport and tourism in the East African region. The road has 3 main sections:</p>
<p>1) Bujumbura-Rumonge (78 km): Studies of its upgrading are ongoing, NEPAD/IPPF funds;</p>
<p>2) Rumonge-Nyanza Lac (45 km): Works are planned, funds from AfDB;</p>
<p>3) Nyanza Lac-Mugina (45 km): Upgrading completed.</p>
<p>Facilitation of trade, transport a.nd tourism in East African region.</p>
<p>Life improvement for the population along the Lake Tanganyika.</p>
<p>Easier for users to reach Kigoma and Dar Es Salaam(TZ), Rumonge and Bujumbura (BDI), Uvira and Goma (DRC), Cyangugu and Gisenyi (RW).</p>
