Project Overview

Gwanda - Beitbridge Road is a road project serving Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Description

<p>The proposed project road is one of the six (6) international trunk routes connecting Zimbabwe with the neighbouring countries of Botswana and South Africa Overall, it is intended that the proposed intervention will reduce travel costs for road users as well as maintenance costs for the Government. A major objective is to help improve road safety conditions for international and regional traffic and for local residents</p>

<p>The project road starts from the Bulawayo Main Post Office and ends at the intersection* with the Masvingo road about 4 km north of the international border area. The approximate limits of the subject Project road are indicated in Map.</p>

Objectives

<p>Anticipated Economic and Social Benefits</p>

<ul>
<li>The economic benefits expected through an improved road condition within the NSC network include increased exports from the corridor Member States, increased intra-regional trade, enhanced competitiveness of the sub-region enabling it to take better advantage of global economic opportunities, higher integration of markets within the corridor zone of influence thus deepening regional integration, overall increase in economic growth for the individual countries resulting in the reduction of poverty for their citizen</li>
<li>The movement of goods and people is premised on the provision of efficient transport networks</li>
<li>Traditionally, the major source of benefits from road pavement improvement / rehabilitation is reduced vehicle operating costs, producing savings which accrue to the road users. </li>
<li>The rehabilitated road contributes towards reduced accidents and fatalities as a result maintaining contributions to regional development</li>
