RN12: Gitega-Karuzi-Muyinga (104 km) is classed "national road". It is a link of the central corridor on burundian territory. The current status of the road is bitumen but needs to be upgraded to the EAC standards.....
<p>Widening of the road from 6m to 7m with a paved shoulder to harmonise with EAC standard. The Muyinga-Gitega road is about 104 km on the RN12. This road forms part of the shortest route to the port of Dar es Salaam and carries 60% of international traffic with Burundi.</p>
<p>The main objective is to nimprove the central corridor in faciitating trade and transport. Other objectives are to provide a better transport connectivity between Burundi and sea ports, and to reduce the transport time on the Central Corridor.</p>
