The Nyakararo–Mwaro–Mweya–Gitega RN18 upgrade is a completed Burundi road project of approximately 56 km. It improves domestic and regional connectivity through an upgraded paved route linking the named towns and surrounding communities. The road is operational.

RN18 is a 56km road on the Central Corridor along the RN7- RN18- RN16 route and is a conduit for movement of traffic from Tanzania to Gitega and Bujumbura. RN18 requires upgrading from gravel to asphalt concrete and expansion of the carriageway from 6 metres to 7 metres.

The road is a part of the main Central Corridor route crossing the territory of Burundi. Its improvement to EAC standards will facilitate trade and transport along the Corridor for economic growth in the region.

Access to this road is expected to provide an alternative route to the Bujumbura- Bugarama corridor and allow for a clear priority transport route for the proposed dry port at Gitega.
