Project Overview

The Isaka–Kigali Standard Gauge Railway is a proposed cross-border line connecting Rwanda with Tanzania's railway network and Dar es Salaam Port. It is intended to reduce freight costs, improve passenger movement and strengthen Rwanda's access to the sea through a modern rail corridor. The project remains in tendering and preparation, without a confirmed full-route construction financing package.

Description

<p>Tanzania is constructing the high speed electric standard gauge railway line from Isaka to Rusumo connects Keza in Kigali (371 Km)</p>

Objectives

<p>The main objective of the railway line construction is to provide a reliable, efficient railway network leading to reduced cost of transportation and logistics between 15% to 20%. The decrease in transport cost can lead to sustained rapid industrialization and economic growth of the East African region. The railway will provide connectivity to Uganda through lake Victoria.</p>
