Project Overview

Dakar - Bamako Standard Gauge Railway (Mali section) is a railway project serving Mali and Senegal. It is intended to improve freight and passenger movement and connect production centres with ports, cities and border corridors through new or rehabilitated rail infrastructure. The Mali section of the Dakar–Bamako railway remains a proposed rehabilitation and modernisation programme for the historic cross-border rail corridor. At 31 December 2025, the project was assessed at Feasibility.

Description

<p>Upgrading of the Mali section of the 1,228 km railway to standard gauge between the border with Senegal and Bamako in Mali.</p>

Objectives

<p>The objective of the project is to improve the connectivity between Dakar Port in Senegal and landlocked Mali, and to offer multi-modal transport options for transporters in the region, thereby lowering overall transport cost.</p>
